“Youth Helping Youth”
Broken Pieces International, incorporates a distinctive point of view from volunteer designers in its design philosophy. We maintain a consistent voice, by pulling in elements of our African heritage and existentially remembering the foundation through which the company was founded. The distinctive qualities of Broken Pieces’ creative prowess and design philosophy, is centered on the concept of our non-profit Higher Ground International, "Youth Helping Youth” model. The idea is to have “at risk” / disadvantaged and other young people, with unique design and artistic abilities, volunteer their time and talents by contributing to the creative process, by “Giving Back” to make a difference in the lives of other disadvantaged and vulnerable young people in Africa.
This is a vehicle through which our youth participants and families, who live in the village communities where we are located in Africa, are able to gain valuable job skills and economic sustainability to help rebuild their lives. We are committed to helping young people with various life challenges develop and hone in their talents and strengths, by highlighting their efforts in “Giving Back” through several mediums on our website, and social media outlets which will expose their work in a broader way.
We have created an environment where the focus is taken off of their individual challenges and is geared to them supporting each other. We are also committed to providing comprehensive services and supports to help these young people deal with the challenges that they are going through, through mentoring opportunities with targeted community members and college students, school and socialization transition as well as family engagements.
